A family sheltered and undaunted in the middle of a war, destruction, and chaos

Building Arks in a Storming World

Preparing Our Families for What’s Ahead

In a world plagued by war, fear, and uncertainty, Christian men are called to respond not with panic, but with trust and obedience—building homes anchored in prayer, truth, and faith, like Noah did. These signs of the times should not stir dread but awaken joyful expectation, reminding us that our eternal home is near and now is the time to prepare our families with courage and clarity.

Key Scripture: Luke 21:28

“When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

Other Scripture: Hebrews 11:7

  1. What specific habits or spiritual practices can we develop to personally remain anchored in peace and faith amid today’s instability?

  2. What practical steps can we take to help our families (or future families) discern the times without being consumed by fear?

Start a regular rhythm of prayer and Scripture reading at home. Invite your family to pray intentionally—for discernment, courage, faith to trust and obey, peace that passes all understanding, and the joy of the Lord—even when the world feels unstable. Or, join with others who already do.

Lord, help me build faithfully like Noah. Anchor my heart in Your Word so I may lead my home with faith, peace, and hope. Let fear never take root where trust in You should dwell, in Jesus' name, Amen.

Exhortation

In these times of global unrest—wars, rumours of wars, economic instability, moral confusion, bombings, missiles, nuclear threats, and growing fear about the future—many hearts are gripped with anxiety. The headlines speak of conflict, and whispers of a third world war stir anxiety across nations. Yet for the Christian man, this is not a time to panic. It is a time to trust and obey. Just as Noah was called to build an ark in a world spiralling into judgment, we are called to prepare spiritual arks, that is, homes anchored in prayer, truth, and unwavering faith.

Hebrews 11:7 says, “By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family…” Noah didn’t wait for the rain to start before he obeyed. He built in faith and holy fear, which refers to a deep, reverent awe and respect for God—not panic or dread. Likewise, we are not called to predict the storm, but to be prepared for it with the expectation that our salvation is near. That preparation begins with ourselves—our walk with God, our spiritual alertness, our leadership in the home, and preparing our families right according to the Word of God.

But let’s be clear—this is not the end of the story; it’s the beginning of our hope. Jesus said in Luke 21:28, “When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” While the world trembles, the believer is called to look up, not shrink back. Romans 13:11 reminds us, “Now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.” These signs are not just warnings; they are reminders that what we’ve longed for is drawing near—that is, going to our real home and living there eternally in peace with Christ, a place where we no longer struggle with sin, fall into temptation, work jobs we don’t enjoy, face health fears, deal with difficult people, or carry the weight of this world. 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 speaks of the gathering of the saints, the great reunion with Christ. This is not a time to fear—it’s a time to rejoice with reverence, like preparing for a long-awaited reunion with beloved friends, family, or classmates after many years—except this time, with saints whose bond is eternal and pure.

Still, we must not be swept up in the fear that grips the world. Isaiah 8:12–13 says, “Do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread. But the Lord of hosts, Him you shall honour as holy.” We are not called to echo the world’s panic, but to stand firm in peace, knowing that God is our refuge and strength. Yes, He is “merciful and gracious, slow to anger” (Psalm 103:8), but He is also “a consuming fire” (Hebrews 12:29). This is not a time for spiritual laziness or compromise. It is a time to lead with clarity, courage, and conviction.

So whether you’re already leading a family or preparing to do so, the call is the same for us as Christian men — build the ark. Establish prayer in your home. Speak the promises of God over your household. Teach your wife and children to discern the times, not with fear, but with faith. Let your home be a place of peace, preparation, and prophetic awareness. Because while the world may be storming, the ark you build today may be the very vessel that carries your family and others into God’s promise tomorrow.
